Section 01 · Definition What Is an SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit?

An SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit — KXT-150-KIT — is a complete high-pressure flange insulation kit. The central gasket utilizes a stainless steel core bonded with high-strength insulating laminate G10 or G11, which maintains the high strength of stainless steel while reaching excellent electrical insulation. A spring-energized Teflon seal provides high-confidence sealing and eliminates costly leaks. The seal groove is cut into the stainless steel core, which avoids leakage through the interval between the two materials.

The SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit is designed to seal and insulate very critical services. It can seal and insulate raised face flanges, full face flanges, and ring joint flanges at all pressures up to ANSI 2500# and API 15,000 PSI. While 316 grade of stainless steel is most commonly required as a core material, Kaxite can also offer more exotic materials such as Super Duplex, Hastelloy and Inconel.

The difference between the SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit and a single isolation gasket is that the kit supplies every component needed to break the electrical circuit across a bolted flange joint: the central gasket breaks the path across the flange faces, the insulating sleeves break the path through the bolt holes, and the insulating washers break the path around the bolts. All four components are supplied as a matched set.

The KXT-150-KIT flange insulation gasket kit includes the KXT-150 insulation gasket, G10 or G11 insulating sleeves, G10 or G11 insulating washers, and zinc-plated steel washers. Each component group plays a specific role in sealing the joint and breaking every electrical path through the flange connection.

Section 03 · Central Gasket Construction of the KXT-150 Central Insulation Gasket

The central gasket of the SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit is built from a stainless steel core, a G10 or G11 insulating laminate bonded to the core, and a spring-energized Teflon seal seated in a groove cut into the stainless steel core.

Section 04 · Kit Contents Component-by-Component Breakdown of the Kit

The SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit contains four matched component groups. The material of the insulating sleeves and insulating washers is usually matched to the material of the insulation gasket's laminates, so a G10 gasket is normally supplied with G10 sleeves and G10 washers.

1. KXT-150 Insulation Gasket

   The central gasket — a stainless steel core bonded with G10 or G11 insulating laminate and a spring-energized Teflon seal seated in a groove cut into the stainless steel core. Designed to seal and insulate very critical service at all pressures up to ANSI 2500# and API 15,000 PSI.

2. G10 or G11 Insulating Sleeves

   One insulating sleeve per bolt. G10 or G11 glass-reinforced epoxy tube. The sleeve is inserted into the bolt hole to break the electrical path through the bolt hole. The material is matched to the material of the gasket's insulating laminate.

3. G10 or G11 Insulating Washers

   Two insulating washers per bolt. G10 or G11 glass-reinforced epoxy laminate. The insulating washers sit between the steel washer and the flange face and break the electrical path around the bolt head and nut. The material is matched to the material of the gasket's insulating laminate.

4. Zinc-Plated Steel Washers

   Two zinc-plated steel washers per bolt. The steel washers spread the bolt load and prevent the insulating washer from being crushed. The zinc plating protects the washer from corrosion in the pipeline environment.

The SS Core Flange Insulation Gasket Kit seals and insulates at all pressures up to ANSI 2500# and API 15,000 PSI. Because the same construction can be sized to fit all three standard flange geometries, the same kit can be supplied for raised face, full face and ring joint flanges.
