FLANGE INSULATION GASKET KIT
Seal and Electrically Isolate Flanged Pipe Joints
Flange insulation gasket kits are designed for electrically insulating the flanges, and they act as an insulator between dissimilar metallic flanges. The FIK 600 series is also used to isolate sections of pipework electrically in cathodic protection systems, preventing electrostatic charge flow along the pipelines and removing the possibility of galvanic cell system creation.
Corrosion is one of the most destructive factors in nature. With the flange insulation gasket kit supplied by Ningbo Kaxite, this costly profit-robbing item can almost be eliminated. Kaxite is a leading manufacturer and supplier for Style FIK 600 flange insulation gasket kits with consistent premium quality. The flange insulation gasket kits from Kaxite are produced from materials with remarkable large dielectric strength, low water absorption and chemical stability to keep the premium quality required in refinery and chemical plant programs. Hydrocarbon exposure, weathering and salt water are no problem for these insulating materials.
A flange insulation gasket kit — FIK 600 series — is a complete set of components used to seal a bolted flange joint while electrically isolating the two flanges from each other. The kit includes one central gasket, one insulating sleeve per bolt, two insulating washers per bolt and two plated steel washers per bolt. The kit breaks every electrical path through the joint — across the flange faces, through the bolt holes and around the bolts.
The purpose of a flange insulation gasket kit is to prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. When a carbon steel flange is bolted to a stainless steel, brass or cast iron flange and an electrolyte is present, a galvanic current can flow between the two metals and corrode the more active one. A flange insulation gasket kit breaks that circuit. The same kit is also used to isolate a cathodic protection system on buried or submerged pipelines so the protection current is not short-circuited across the flange.
Kaxite produces a whole line of regular flange insulation gasket kits, including Type E (full-face), Type F (raised-face), Type D (RTJ ring joint), TFikseal™ (sealing element) and VCS (very critical service, high-pressure). The FIK 600 series covers the full pressure range — from ANSI Class 150 low-pressure service up to ANSI 2500# and API 15,000 PSI — in one catalogue.
The FIK 600 flange insulation gasket kit can be used in all places where galvanic corrosion protection and electrical insulation are needed. Because the kit seals and isolates at the same time, it is selected for both new piping systems and retrofit isolation joints.
Every FIK 600 flange insulation gasket kit contains four matched component groups. Each component group plays a specific role in sealing the joint and breaking every electrical path through the flange connection.
Central Big Gasket
One central big flat or oval section gasket. The central gasket is the primary sealing element and the primary dielectric barrier between the two flange faces. Available in Type E, Type F, Type D, TFikseal™ or VCS construction depending on the flange geometry and pressure class.
Insulation Sleeve — One Per Bolt
One insulation sleeve per bolt. The sleeve sits inside the bolt hole and prevents the bolt shank from contacting the flange, breaking the electrical path through the bolt hole. Standard wall thickness is 0.79 mm.
Insulating Washers — Two Per Bolt
Two insulating washers per bolt. The insulating washers sit between the steel washer and the flange face and break the electrical path around the bolt head and nut. Standard insulating washer materials include G10, G11, G7, phenolic and mica.
Plated Steel Washers — Two Per Bolt
Two plated steel washers per bolt. The steel washers spread the bolt load and prevent the insulating washer from being crushed. Standard materials include zinc-plated carbon steel (ZPS), HCS with X37 coating, and stainless steel 304 or 316.
All these components are produced using special materials possessing chemical stability, dielectric properties and low water absorption so that the purpose is solved. The materials for the components are usually NEMA grade G10, G11, G7, phenolic, Mylar, Nomex and other phenolic materials.
Kaxite produces a whole line of regular flange insulation gasket kits — Type E gaskets, Type F gaskets, Type D (API ring joint) gaskets, TFikseal™ gaskets and VCS high-pressure gaskets. Each type is designed for a different flange geometry or service condition.
Type E Flange Insulation Gasket (Full Face)
Type E flange insulation gasket kit is designed for whole safety of flanges and has the exact same outside size as the flange. Each insulation gasket features precision machined bolt holes. On assembly, it is recommended that sealing tape be wrapped around the outside of the flange to counteract external material from lodging between the exposed portions and triggering shorting out of the flanges. Almost all Type E gaskets are easily centered with the flange inside diameter. Gaskets with slightly larger outside diameters are available on demand. Type E gaskets are available in G10, G11, G7, neoprene or nitrile faced phenolic, plain phenolic, and G10 with stainless steel 316 core or non-asbestos materials.
Type F Flange Insulation Gasket (Ring Face Gasket)
Type F flange insulation gasket kit is made to physically fit the raised face component of flanges. The outside size of the gasket is slightly small compared to the inside diameter of the bolt hole circle. The outside diameter is designed for alignment by the insulating sleeves. The central gaskets can be obtained in the exact same materials as Type E. Upon installing, it is recommended that tape be wrapped around the outside of the flange to avoid external materials from lodging between the uncovered portions and creating shorting out of the flanges.
Type D Flange Insulation Gasket Kit (API Ring Joint Gasket)
Type D flange insulation gasket kit is an insulating ring joint gasket made to physically fit the ring groove of ring type joint flanges. The Type D central gasket is made of medium weave fabric reinforced phenolic or G10, made to ASME B16.20 gasket sizes. Attributes are similar to those of phenolic or G10 flat main gaskets and are available in the basic octagonal shapes. Oval ring type joint gasket shapes can be requested by unique demand. Once installing Type D flange insulation gasket kit, it is also highly recommended that sealing adhesive tape be wrapped around the outside of the flange to avoid foreign material from lodging between the exposed portions and creating shorting out of the flanges. Positioning pins should be used whenever possible to ensure correct positioning of flanges while installing most flange insulation sets. Pins need to be at least 2.38 mm bigger than the bolt dimensions.
TFikseal™ Flange Insulation Gasket Kit
TFikseal™ flange insulation gasket kit has a rectangular sealing element in combination with a unique groove design to effectively seal and isolate flanges for potable water and other low-pressure fluid piping applications. This type of flange insulation gasket kit is available in raised face and flat face flanges in ANSI Class 150, 300 and 600 service. The sealing element materials can be nitrile, Viton, Teflon PTFE or PTFE (Teflon) spring-energized seal. Flange insulation gasket kit is an excellent choice for isolating distribution lines and transport lines for gas, oil and water. Because the gasket kit has very good resistance to creep relaxation, it performs well in heat exchangers, applications with high vibration or excessive thermal cycling.
Flange insulation gasket kits can also be divided into two types: low-pressure and high-pressure flange insulation gasket kits.
Low-Pressure Flange Insulation Gasket Kits
If the central big gasket retainer of a flange insulation gasket kit is made of insulating materials such as NEMA Grade G10, G11, G7, neoprene faced phenolic or plain phenolic, it can be regarded as a low-pressure gasket seal. These are created for low-pressure service in transmission, distribution and process piping systems.
Flange insulation gasket kits which include gaskets, sleeves and washers are available for all flange sizes, types, pressure ratings and materials. Working pressure is from ANSI 150 class, 300 class and 600 class.
High-Pressure Flange Insulation Gasket Kits
High-pressure flange insulation gasket kit is one kind of gasket used for critical service, providing the utmost safety and reliability in some of the most demanding, dangerous environments on earth. It is usually reinforced with a stainless steel core such as SS 316, designed and constructed of premium materials and extensively tested in conditions that far exceed field service specifications.
Critical service flange insulation gasket kits provide the dependability needed when failure is absolutely unacceptable. This kind of gasket can seal and insulate at all pressures up through ANSI 2500# and API 15,000 PSI.
Each component group of the FIK 600 flange insulation gasket kit is available in a range of materials. Each material is selected for a different combination of dielectric strength, compressive strength, water absorption and operating temperature.
Central big gasket retainer materials are G3, G7, nitrile faced phenolic, plain phenolic, G10, neoprene faced phenolic, Klinger, Teflon and Durlon. Typical values for the most common grades are listed below.
